Sora, the AI video generator app developed by ChatGPT maker OpenAI, is now available on Android. Initially available on iOS, the social app features a TikTok-like feed of AI-generated videos and also lets you generate videos from text prompts.ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW VIDEO
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), OpenAI’s Sora head, Bill Peebles, said that while Sora is now available on the world’s most popular mobile operating system, it is limited to select regions including the United States, Canada, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. The post also reveals that OpenAI is working on bringing Sora to Europe, but it is still unclear when the social app will make it to India.
However, unlike the iOS version of the app, which required users to have an invite code to access the app, Sora’s Android app doesn’t need an invite code to join. Also, you won’t have to join any sort of waitlist to use it.

To give you a quick recap, OpenAI’s Sora app lets users generate videos from text prompts and share them with everyone else on an Instagram or TikTok-style feed. Users also have access to a feature called “Cameos”, which allows them to upload a picture of themselves and change the background to anything generated by Sora. To do so, you will have to upload a one-time video and voice clip to verify identity and capture appearance.

Sora also takes into consideration the user’s activity, geographical location, previous interactions and their ChatGPT history to offer personalised suggestions. However, there’s a limit to how many videos you can generate in a day. While ChatGPT Pro subscribers are limited to 100 videos every 24 hours, free and Plus users are restricted to 30 videos per day.
In just five days after launch, Sora reportedly had 1 million downloads and held the top spot on the Apple App Store for about three weeks. As of now, it is holding the number five spot in the US, right behind Gemini and ChatGPT.
