Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence (AI) firm xAI has upgraded its Grok AI model with new capabilities, including a new AI-powered feature that lets users transform any still image into a short video with just a few simple steps.
“Long press on any image to turn it into a video! Then customise the prompt to create whatever you can imagine,” Musk said in a post on X on Sunday, November 9. The post was accompanied by an AI-generated video that Musk said he created from a still image of a girl with the prompt: ‘She smiles and says, ‘I will always love you.’
Sure enough, the video shows a photorealistic, AI-generated woman on a rainy street, saying those words in a synthetic voice.

These new AI capabilities are reportedly powered by Grok Imagine, the new photo and video generation tool from xAI. Additionally, the Grok AI chatbot is integrated with Musk’s social media platform X. This enables users to directly interact with these tools and post AI-generated content on the platform.
Soon after the tech billionaire’s announcement, several users took to X to experiment with the new feature and post their own attempts at converting still images into AI-generated clips.
Musk also posted an AI-generated clip of actress Sydney Sweeney saying, “You are so cringe.” Similar AI features have also been rolled out by tech companies such as Adobe, whose Firefly AI model comes with image-to-video capabilities that can be used to convert still images or illustrations into live action videos.
Recently, xAI also announced that Grok 4 would be free for all users across the world. However, free-tier users have only a limited number of prompts and queries per day. Meanwhile, paid users who have subscribed to xAI’s Premium or Premium+ subscription packages have access to faster response times, extended context length, and advanced ‘SuperGrok’ mode.
